VICTORIAN COLLEGE OF THE ARTS,’ the cage’, Southbank, Melbourne

spatial deconstruction #1 (prism), the artist’s inaugural work in the spatial deconstruction series, was created in VCA’s project space, The Cage, during Coulter’s postgraduate studies. Developed as an intuitive response to the architectural environment, this piece marked a pivotal breakthrough, initiating a lifelong exploration of spatial relationships and perception through a sustained series of works.

Through Coulter’s series of site-specific works, which the artist names ‘spatial deconstructions’, she astutely extends her painting practice, reinventing architecture to render it a painting and a support structure all at once.
